Ratifies WTO Entry
Russia's
Upper House of Parliament has ratified the agreement to join the World Trade Organization
on July 18, 2012 despite wide spread opposition inside the country.

The
Federation council voted 144 to 4 to approve the protocol on WTO entry, which
took Russia 18 years to negotiate.
·
Only
the signature of the president Vladimir Putin is needed to complete the formalities.
After the signature, Russia will finally become the WTO's 156th
member under which Moscow would cut import tariffs and open up sectors of its
economy to foreign investment.
