Friends of Syria Meeting
Over 100
countries delegations have met at the third Friends of Syria meeting held in Paris
on July 6, 2012. A group of western and Arab countries has called for tougher
sanctions against the Syrian government and are mulling over peace political
transition in violence-torn Arab country
Ø The meeting also focused that
President Bashar-al-Assad would have to quit
Ø French President, Francois Holland
backed for rapid implementation of the UN and Arab League-backed peace plan
from UN mediator, Kofi Annan, to stop unrest in Syria.
Ø Holland also called for tougher
sanctions against Assad and More support for rebels.
Ø Syrian opposition rejected the Geneva
talks as making concessions to Damascus under pressure from Russia.
Ø China and Russia did not attend the
meeting on Syria.
