Janani Suraksha Yojana
Jnanani Suraksha Yojana (JSY) by way of modifying the
existing National Maternity Benefit Scheme (NMBS) has been launched in 2005.
The objectives of the scheme are reducing maternal mortality/infant mortality
through increased delivery at health institutions. While several interventions
for improving maternal health have been under implementation, it is felt that
effective care is possible by making available essential and emergency
obstetric services, by way of focusing at increased institutional car, among
women in BPL families.
